Thanks so much for visiting my site! This is a new adventure for me and I hope to connect with lots of people who love art and creating, as much as I do. For me, the creative process is as natural as any other part of living and hopefully my artwork reflects that connection to nature and life.
From an early age, I loved making things. My mother was an outstanding cook and baker and would often let me help her in the kitchen. Both of my parents enjoyed music so there was always a creative atmosphere present in our house. Many of my extended family were also makers and craftsman. We were not wealthy and much of the time, our making was the least expensive way to get what we needed. I have so many great memories of making things with my family.
I studied music education in college and taught music for awhile before I became interested in macrame and fiberart. After my daughters left home and I was no longer teaching music, I began creating macrame, something I had learned in my seventh grade Home Economics class! I started by making smaller items and as my confidence and skills grew, so did the size and design of my artwork. My macrame expanded to include weaving techniques as well as using a variety of textures and materials in my work.
I have been creating macrame and fiberart for almost five years, selling my work at a local gift shop and markets as well as posting my work on social media. I am excited to begin online sales now with this website.
My husband and I live in the woods and much of the inspiration for my designs and work come directly from nature. Many of my pieces are constructed on branches from my woods and have been hand cleaned and prepared for each individual piece. I love seeing the textures and layers that occur in nature, like the leaf canopy in spring and summer, or the layers of organic material on the forest floor. Shapes of branches and trees influence the structure and shape of my artwork and of course, the colors! I work with 100% natural cotton, mostly recycled, and use a variety of colors. In many of my pieces, fringe is a prominent feature, which provides so much movement, much like when the wind moves the leaves on the trees.
I love creating with Fiber! I often say that I can express my ideas so much better with fiber than I ever could with a pencil or paintbrush. It has become my passion and my joy to be able to create works of fiberart that embody the essence of Life and Nature.
